Mason House Inn

*******Our first Ghost Hunting class on May 21, 2005, was a huge success!  And the class on Sept. 3, 2005 was amazing!!  The Feb 4, 2006 paranormal investigation brought unexpected results!  The May 13, 2006 ghost hunt was a sell out!  The Aug. 5 and Nov. 18, 2006 classes had some surprising interaction!  Markie went to the Light during the Feb. 2 and 3 class!   We talked to Frederick Hancock about the Underground Railroad during the May 5, 2007 session!  So another class has been scheduled and a new class has been added!*******

Christopher Moon, a Professional Ghost Hunter from Colorado, will hold classes here at the Mason House Inn entitled "Ghost Hunting 101" and "Ghost Hunting 102".  For all you ghost hunting enthusiasts, this is an excellent opportunity to learn from an expert and explore a real haunted hotel.  The "Today Show" has named us as one of the most haunted places in America.   Now, we are not promising that you will see a ghost or anything like that, but this is likely to be a very interesting evening.   (Read Joy's Journal to see the latest happenings!)

A new class has been added on Friday nights!  Ghost Hunting 102 is for those of you who have already taken the 101 class and want to know more.  The class will involve more advanced ghost hunting techniques and equipment.  We will do in-depth investigation and interaction with the spirits here and up at the cemetery if weather permits.

What?   A class on ghost hunting, dinner, spend the night at the Mason House Inn, and breakfast the next morning.

When?  The next class of Ghost Hunting 101 is May 3rd and 4th.  There is still room in the class on the 3rd and still room for overnight on the 4th.   The next classes are June 28th and 29th,  2008 (a separate class each night).   We are taking reservations for them now.  There are still rooms available for the May 4th class, and you may also come to the class without staying overnight.   Due to the overwhelming request for Sunday classes, Chris has agreed to do both a Saturday and a Sunday class in May and June.  The Saturday and Sunday classes start at 2pm.  We need to have a minimum of 15 people to hold the class or it will be cancelled .

What about 102 class?   The next Ghost Hunting 102 class is May 2nd, 2008, class starts at 6pm.  A light supper is included starting at 5pm.  (Note: The 102 class in June is on the 27th.  We are taking reservations for it now.)  We need to have a minimum of 15 people to hold the class or it will be cancelled .

When can I arrive and check in?   For the Friday night class, if you are staying overnight, you may check in between 3pm and 5pm.  If you are not staying the night, you may arrive around 5:00 to 5:30pm.  A soup and sandwich supper will be served starting at 5:00 and the class starts at 6:00pm.    For the Saturday and Sunday afternoon class, you may arrive around 2 to 2:30pm.   Earlier is better.  Eat lunch first as there is no where in Bentonsport to grab a bite.  (Supper is here at the Inn.)

What time?   The Saturday and Sunday 101 classes start at  2pm.  Both classes will go till about 8 or 9pm.  Dinner is included around 5 pm.  The Friday 102 class starts at 6pm, with a light supper served starting at 5:00pm, and will go till about 9 or 10pm.

How much?   For each class and dinner, it is only $63* per person, but is it more fun to spend the night and see what happens!  If you want to spend the night, you just pay the regular room rate for the room you choose.  (See our Tour of Rooms page to choose a room.)  We do have some "safe" rooms if you wish a quiet night.  Or be brave and stay in the main house on the second floor.  The room rate includes breakfast in the morning.  The class, room, and dinner fee must be pre-paid and is nonrefundable.  Reservations must be made in advance with a credit or debit card.  (MasterCard or Visa).  Or a check can be mailed for the entire amount.  Checks must be received within a week of your reservation or we cannot guarantee your reservation.  (*This is the 2008 price, starting in 2009, due the rising cost of fuel and everything else, the price will be $75 per person.)

Friday night rooms are available for 102 class attendees only, and Saturday night rooms are for Saturday class attendees only, and Sunday night rooms are for Sunday class attendees only.

How many?   Class size is limited to 35 people maximum.  The Mason House has 9 rooms and they will be filled to capacity (as much as is feasible).  A class of 15 minimum must be reached to hold the class.

What do I bring?   A real digital camera (not the one-time-use kind.)  If you have a digital voice recorder, bring it for EVP readings.  If you have an External Digital Thermometer, bring it to find "cold spots".   If you have a video camera with night vision capability, bring it to capture moving orbs.  Christopher will be bringing his sophisticated electronic ghost detecting equipment and will explain their uses and findings.

Who ya gonna call?    GHOST BUSTERS!!!!       No really, call Chuck or Joy at the Mason House to make a reservation.   800-592-3133

I would like to say that we do not do any séances or allow Ouija boards on the Inn property!  We do not ask to talk to anybody's dead relatives or friends.  The purpose of these ghost hunting classes are to educate people on how to do a ghost hunt properly.  Chris Moon does sometimes use his "Edison's Telephone to the Dead" to talk to the spirits here, but it is only to find out who is here and why they are here.  This is not a séance.  Do not bring a Ouija board.  Thank you.

Don't delay, call today!

See Christopher Moon's web site at http://www.hauntedtimes.com   (If this web site does not load properly, delete the / and any other letters until you have just the .com, this should work.)

Read the Press Release:   Ghost Hunter University at the Mason House Inn

Do apparitions have whole bodies?  Can you tell a ghost is in the room by temperature changes?  Do ghosts talk?  Should I talk back to ghosts?  Should I be scared?

Answers to all these questions, plus an amazing tour of the Mason House Inn, is all part of Ghost Hunter University, scheduled for Saturday, 3 May 2008, at the Historic Mason House Inn, an antique hotel built in 1846, in Bentonsport, Iowa.

On Saturday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m., we present "Ghost Hunting 101 - A Primer."  Renowned ghost hunter Christopher Moon - owner of Haunted Times Magazine - and his staff will present the basics of good ghost hunting, including an introduction to ghost hunting theory and the use of technical equipment for real ghost hunting.  If you'd like to bring your own ghost hunting tools, you'll get expert advice on how to use them.

Saturday evening brings "The Ghost Hunter Experience."  We'll start with a ghoulishly good dinner, served in the hotel's historic setting.  The Mason House owners will give the haunted history of the hotel to get you ready for the highlight of your evening, while the ghost hunters also follow up with background information on the previous paranormal investigation of the hotel.

After dinner, the ghost hunters will conduct a ghost tour of the hotel.  The paranormal investigators will demonstrate the use of ghost hunting equipment and take you to the hot sports of the hotel, where you'll have the chance to experience the paranormal for yourself.  They'll answer all your questions about ghosts that you've been dying to ask.  If time and weather permits, we will take a trip to the Bentonsport Cemetery to see what we can find there.

Sound interesting?  A little frightening?  Go ahead and give it a try - you may find a daring new hobby!  "Ghost Hunting 101" is only $63 per person for the class, dinner, lecture, and tour.  You may also stay overnight and enjoy breakfast on Sunday morning for the regular room rate.  On May 4th, there will also be a Sunday class offered for those who can't make it on Saturday.  Previous 101 students may attend the 102 class on Friday, May 2nd.  In this class, the participants actually lead the ghost hunt and then Chris will teach you how to decipher the EVPs using Adobe Audition on a computer.  Choose your option and then call the Mason House Inn to make your reservations quickly - before your chance mysteriously disappears!  800-592-3133
